Fri 10 Oct 2009Tesco denies it put up prices across the board
THE COUNTRY’S largest retailer, Tesco, has denied putting up prices across the board and described a notice to this effect from one of its managers as a mistake. Instead, the multiple claims to have introduced a further 7,329 price cuts over the past month, on top of the 12,500 cuts announced in May as part of its “change for good” price-reduction strategy.
No more than “a few hundred” of the original 12,500 items had increased again in price, according to Tesco Ireland marketing manager Kenny Jacobs. He was responding to correspondence between Tesco and a customer published on the website cheapeats.ie, which appeared to show Tesco had increased prices after the conclusion of the Change for Good campaign last month.
