Two men have been remanded in custody charged in connection with an attempted burglary at a furniture store in Co Longford.
Joseph Bates (33), of 12b Boyne St, Dublin 2, and Ray Ward (34), of 14 Colthurst Road, Huntingdon Glen, Lucan, were refused bail and are due to appear at Longford District Court again on Tuesday.
Both men were charged with entering a building known as Gerry Kennedy Furniture at Kilmoyle, Killoe, Longford yesterday morning as a trespassers with intent to commit theft contrary to Section 12 Criminal Justice Act 2001.
Mr Ward was also charged with the unauthorised taking of a vehicle contrary to Section 112 of Road Traffic Act 1961.
A third man (29) arrested in connection with the incident, during which a shotgun was fired, was released without charge and a file is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
