Student seeks injunctions over video
The High Court has reserved judgment in the case of a Dublin City University student seeking injunctions against several national newspapers from publishing his name in connection with allegedly defamatory video material.
Lawyers for student told the court today that their client was seeking orders barring the newspapers from publishing his name in connection with case.
The court is expected to rule on the matter tomorrow.
The student earlier in the week obtained the injunctions against a number of internet firms, including Facebook and Google, arising out of the broadcast of a video clip, accompanying text and a Facebook profile alleging he was guilty of taxi-fare evasion.
He claimed the material, if its broadcasting continues, would blight his career.
The injunctions, which are continued to next week, were granted against Facebook Ireland Ltd, Google Ireland Ltd, Google US, YouTube, YouTube LLC, and Yahoo Ltd.
