Police in Northern Ireland have appealed to the public in their investigation into a van bomb found below an underpass near the border on Thursday April 7th.

The blue Ford Fiesta registration number GCZ7682 was last seen on the day the van was abandoned. Anyone with information about its whereabouts

Detectives are also keen to speak to people in the area of Patrick's Street in Newry at around 10.30pm that same night.

The police are also keen to identify a man who used a phone box outside the eastern campus of the South Eastern Regional College.

The bomb, similar in size to the 1998 Real IRA bomb in Omagh that claimed the lives of 29 people including a woman pregnant with twins, could have caused “huge devastation” according to the police.

It was made safe by a British army bomb disposal squad after three days of road and rail disruption.
