Man held over €1.6m drug seizure

A man (36) has been arrested in connection with the seizure of drugs in Co Kildare this afternoon.

The arrest comes following a search of a vehicle in Naas at about 1.40pm.

The vehicle contained a number of large cardboard cartons which when examined revealed 122kgs of herbal cannabis and 2kgs of suspected cocaine, which together have an estimated street value of €1.6 million.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at Naas Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking ) Act 1996.
