Guns seized, 5 held in operation against dissidents in Dublin

Five people remain in custody this evening in connection with a Garda operation targeting dissident republicans and criminal activity in Dublin.

Seven guns as well as ammunition were also seized as part of the operation.

A Garda spokesman said the force’s Special Detective Unit arrested the four men and a woman in Dublin city last night. Four of those arrested are aged in their 20s and one of the men is in his 60s.

They are being questioned under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act in Terenure, Blackrock and Shankill Garda stations.

The spokesman said seven firearms and a quantity of ammunition were found and are being examined by the Garda Technical Bureau.
