Fermanagh bomb linked to dissident republicans
A roadside bomb which police have linked to dissident republicans has been discovered in Co Fermanagh.
The device was found at Wattlebridge near Newtownbutler on Saturday.
Anyone could have been killed but police may have been the intended target, near the Border, the PSNI said.
Chief Inspector Alwyn Barton added: “At the roadside it could cause injury or death to absolutely anyone who comes within reach of it, it is completely indiscriminate.
“We are working on the basis that dissident republicans were involved in this.
“They could not care who gets hurt or injured and if the community has any information, members need to support the police in our attempt to keep the community safe.”
There were several telephone warnings to police on Saturday via the media.
Bomb disposal experts are still at the scene.
Mr Barton added: “This bears all the hallmarks of a roadside bomb device. We are working on the basis that it is viable until it is proven otherwise.”
