Rourke film wins Venice Film Festival award

The film The Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke and directed by Darren Aronofsky, won the Venice Film Festival's top award, the Golden Lion, at a closing ceremony late last night.

The festival announced the winner on its website.

Italy's Silvio Orlando took the best-actor trophy for Il Papa di Giovanna directed by Pupi Avati.

France's Dominique Blanc won the best-actress award for L'Autre directed by Patrick Mario Bernard and Pierre Trividic.

The Venice Film Festival, the world's oldest, was held this year from August 27th to September 6th on Venice's Lido island.
