Two released in international weapons investigation
Two men arrested earlier this week in connection with a cross-border investigation into organised crime have been released without charge.
The two men, both in their 30s, were arrested in Birr and Roscrea on Wednesday, and detained in Blanchardstown garda station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
However, gardaí said this morning they had been released and a file was being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The investigation was part of an international operation that involved gardaí, the PSNI and police in the Netherlands. More than 200 firearms have now been seized, including 27 weapons in Dublin, 14 in Belfast and 165 in the Netherlands.
