No casualties, no shooter spotted at Navy Yard, says spokesman

US Military installation was the scene of 2013 shooting in which 12 died

A Washington Navy Yard spokesman has said there are no casualties and no shooter has been spotted at the military installation.

A lockdown was put in place earlier amid reports that a gunman was active at the location.

The Navy Yard, in south-east Washington, is the country’s oldest naval installation. It was the site of a 2013 shooting in which a gunman killed 12 people.

The report came amid heightened security concerns ahead of the US Independence Day holiday weekend. Representatives for the Park Police could not be immediately reached.
