There is travel disruption at Dublin Airport this morning after multiple flights were diverted on Monday night due to fog.
Around a dozen flights en route to Dublin were diverted after 10pm to Shannon and Belfast airports, with reports on social media of passengers waiting for more than five hours to be brought back to Dublin after landing in other Irish airports.
The diversions have caused knock-on disruption to services this morning as aircraft due to depart from Dublin were forced to remain at other airports overnight.
A spokeswoman for Dublin Airport said there were 12 flight diversions on Monday night due to low visibility and heavy fog conditions which were neither forecasted not expected.

“Seven aircraft diverted to Shannon, three diverted to Liverpool and two to Belfast. Most of the aircraft arrived back into Dublin during the night.”
“Work is taking place on the main runway nightly from 11pm - 5am as a consequence our secondary runway; R16/34 is in operation.
“Some aircraft do not have the capability to operate on this runway in poor weather conditions such as dense fog on the airfield,” said a spokeswoman.
“Because of poor visibility on the airfield the runway overlay works were cancelled for the rest of the night at 11.30pm and flight operations returned to the main runway,” she added.
