‘Irish Boys’ seek change in bail conditions on alleged fraud

Three of the four “Irish Boys” alleged fraud gang will appear in a Queensland court on Wednesday seeking to change their bail conditions.

The case against Irish men Neil McKenney and Stiofan Ceitann and Australian brothers Aaron and Daniel East, was mentioned in Southport Court on Tuesday.

The Crime and Corruption Commission alleges the "Irish Boys" defrauded around AU$4 million (€2.52m) from more than 150 victims over an 18-month period in a trading software scam.

People paid thousands of dollars for a computer programme that could supposedly predict how commodity markets such as gold were going to move.

Chief magistrate Chris Callaghan ordered police to give their brief of evidence to the defendants by December 15th and for the case to return to court on February 2nd.

The East brothers and Mr McKenney will appear before the court tomorrow trying to change a bail condition so they can contact each other. The police are not expected to challenge this.

Aaron East was in court on Tuesday but his lawyer Chris Nyst said Daniel East could not appear in court for fear of breaching the no-contact order.

Mr McKenny also faces separate charges including possession of drugs and money.

That case is due for mention on October 13th.
