Weekend of family Christmas festivals

Sat, Dec 22, 2012, 00:00

Carolling, a crib, a Christmas food market and a puppet show with Rudolph in it – it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Farmleigh.

Head along to the Phoenix Park between 10am and 5pm today and tomorrow for some free festive family fun.

If you missed out on tickets to the sold-out Nutcracker tonight, fancy footwork of a less refined nature will play out on the rugby pitch.

The traditional festive interprovincial series kicks off with Connacht hosting Munster at the Galway Sportsground today at 5.15pm.

For those with one last gift to get, the Galway continental Christmas market, Winterval in Waterford, Christmas on the Grand Parade in Cork and markets in Pery Square, Limerick, in Killarney and in the Dublin Docklands, promise plenty of gift ideas, entertainment and Christmas treats.

If you survived the Mayan end of the world yesterday, then why not celebrate?

As part of a Christmas festival that runs until New Year’s Day, the town of Dún Laoghaire is hosting a winter solstice fireworks display this evening. Get to the harbour before 4.30pm to get a good seat.
