Visiting restricted after bug confirmed at Nenagh hospital

Visiting restrictions have been introduced at Nenagh General Hospital following the confirmation of three cases of the bug Clostridium difficile.

Admissions to the hospital’s female ward have been suspended and patients affected have been isolated, the hospital confirmed. There is a ban on visiting the ward, and visitors wishing to enter other wards are requested to check with nursing staff first.

Infection control procedures have been intensified at the hospital as a result of the outbreak. The Clostridium difficile (C diff) bug, spread by poor personal hygiene, mostly afflicts people with weakened immune systems and is a significant problem in hospitals and nursing homes.
