Van Morrison to launch lyrics show at music festival

Van Morrison, who says he is a fan of poet WB Yeats, is to feature in the poet’s home town of Sligo at a music festival in October with a new dimension to his public performance.

The musician will be among a number of headline acts in the six-day festival which will also include Joan Armatrading.

Van Morrison will present a new show called Lyrics and Poetry: Emphasis on Words.

It will take place at the new Knocknarea Arena in the Institute of Technology Sligo

on October 28th as part of the Sligo Live festival which is celebrating its eighth year as a folk, roots and indie music festival.

The Sligo Live website said audiences are promised that Van Morrison, accompanied by his rhythm section, will perform songs with a strong emphasis on words, together with readings from the poetry of Yeats.

The website added that the choice of Sligo, the “spiritual home of Yeats”, to launch Van Morrison’s new show placing the emphasis on poetry and lyrics was no coincidence.

It said fans would also be treated to previously unseen work by Van Morrison.

Songs from his albums Astral Weeks, No Guru, No Method, No Teacher and Hymns to the Silence” will also feature in the show.
