A contingent of the United States Marine Corps known as “The Wild Geese” will take part in the international festival of hurling in Semple Stadium, Thurles, Co Tipperary, on July 13th and 14th.

About 1,000 players will be involved in the festival.

It is being organised by the Thurles Sarsfields GAA Club.

The European Hurling and Camogie Championships are also being held in conjunction with the festival.

The US marines will be taking a break from their tour of duty on this side of the Atlantic, where they are based in Suffolk, England.

Also taking part in the festival in Thurles, birthplace of the GAA and European Town of Sport for 2012, will be teams from the United States, England, Northern Ireland, Brussels and the Republic.
