The trial of Adam Clayton’s former personal assistant, which was taken up with legal argument yesterday, is expected to resume on Monday afternoon.
Carol Hawkins (47), Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin, pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to more than 180 counts of theft from two of Mr Clayton’s Bank of Ireland accounts over four years from 2004 to 2008. The alleged thefts totalled €2,862,567.
On day three of the trial Judge Patrick McCartan sent the jury of seven men and five women home for the weekend and asked them to return at 2pm on Monday.
U2’s bass guitarist, Mr Clayton (52), who attended the first two days of the trial, is expected to give evidence early next week.
The trial is expected to last six weeks and the case involves over 30 witnesses and a 2,500-page book of evidence.
