Russian tycoon and British newspaper financier Alexander Lebedev has been charged with hooliganism and assault after punching another businessman on TV.

Mr Lebedev, whose son Evgeny owns the Independent and Evening Standard newspapers, has also financed Russian publication Novaya Gazeta, which is strongly critical of the Kremlin.

Mr Lebedev (52) was charged with hooliganism and assault by the Russian state investigative committee after he punched property developer Sergei Polonsky on a television panel show in September last year. – (PA)
