Two men were arrested in Co Louth this morning as part of a Garda operation targeting criminal and subversive activity in Dundalk.

Six searches were carried out at various properties in the area.

A man in his 30s and a man in his 70s are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Drogheda Garda station.

A Garda spokesman said the operation was “not directly related to the investigation into the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe”.

Det Donohoe (41), was shot dead as he approached a five-strong gang in the grounds of his local credit union in the village of Jenkinstown, Co Louth, on January 25th.

A Garda source revealed that teams of officers dedicated to investigating the murder are uncovering other criminal activity in the Border area, which led to the latest arrests.
