Tourist rescued on Lough Ree
A German tourist was rescued from Lough Ree on the River Shannon last night after a cruiser carrying three men ran aground on Priests Island.
The Lough Ree rescue boat recovered two men from the cruiser after a call was received by the Irish Coast Guard Marine Rescue at around 8pm.
A search then began for a third man, who had left the cruiser in a dinghy to seek assistance.
The Coast Guard helicopter from Sligo was called in to assist in the search, and all vessels in the area were notified.
The man was found safe and well on an island in Lough Ree by gardaí at around 11.20pm. He was brought to hospital last night.
