Friends of a 17-year-old who died on Sunday are rallying to get a video message from his favourite band played at his funeral.

Friends of Dubliner Kaelem Hainsworth are requesting members of the band Green Day make a video tribute to the Oatlands College student.

The first direct message to the band was made yesterday by Mr Hainsworth's cousin, who wrote a message on their Facebook page saying how much it would have meant to him.

"Kaelem Hainsworth was the biggest Green Day fan I knew and has attended every concert in which Green Day performed in Dublin since he was eligible as he was only 17," he wrote.

"He was really looking forward to your next visit to Dublin but now his funeral is on this Thursday and I know he would have loved for nothing more than a short dedication video that we could play at his funeral at 11.15 22nd of November."

A number of famous people have joined in on the campaign through Twitter using the hashtag #makekaelemsdaygreen.

Although Warner Music Ireland, who represent Green Day, could not comment on the request, a spokesman said that a request has been sent from the organisation to the band.
