Supreme Court appeal sought

A Dublin man convicted of the murder of two Polish mechanics after stabbing both in the head with a screwdriver is seeking to appeal his convictions to the Supreme Court on the ground that they raise points of law of exceptional importance.

The issues include the onus of proof in murder cases in which provocation arises as an issue.

David Curran, Lissadell Green, Drimnagh, was jailed for life in 2010 for the murders of 29-year-old Pawel Kalite and 27-year-old Marius Szwajkos outside their home at Benbulben Road, Drimnagh on February 23rd, 2008.

Curran appealed against his conviction and that was dismissed by the Court of Criminal Appeal last December. He is now petitioning to raise matters in the Supreme Court.
