DUBLIN CHILDREN'S COURT:A 16-year-old youth who caused almost €27,000 of damage when he crashed a stolen Mercedes into two other cars has been spared a custodial sentence and a driving ban.

The teenager was sentenced to six months of supervised probation, which includes a condition that he must come home when his mother tells him.

The boy pleaded guilty at Dublin Children’s Court to stealing a Mercedes car in Balbriggan last April.

The court heard that the boy was in an educational programme for early school leavers and his behaviour had been affected by a negative peer group.
