A public relations executive with Paramount Pictures has initiated a High Court action aimed at preventing termination of her employment.

Anna Lavery, who has been Paramount’s head of publicity and promotions in Ireland for several years, believes she is facing possible redundancy.

Mr Justice George Birmingham yesterday granted lawyers for Ms Lavery, Admiral Court, Baldoyle, Co Dublin, permission to serve short service of injunction proceedings against Paramount Pictures Services UK and Paramount Pictures, D’Olier Street, Dublin 2.

The application was made on an ex parte basis by Paul McGarry SC, for Ms Lavery. Counsel said his client intended to bring an action against her employers arising out of circumstances where she faced the possibility of being made redundant.

An undertaking had been given by Ms Lavery’s employers not to terminate her employment pending the outcome of the proposed proceedings, Mr McGarry said. The matter was returned to the High Court next week.
