Profile: Eoghan Murphy (FG)

Dublin Bay South: Second TD elected of four

Elected to the Dáil on his first attempt in 2011, Eoghan Murphy (33) was one of the five-a-side gang of young male TDs who criticised party policy and demanded changes to the Cabinet after Fine Gael's disappointing showing in the 2014 local elections. His outspokenness cost him the opportunity of promotion, but he was subsequently appointed to the banking inquiry. He co-operated well with running mate Kate O'Connell, in whose campaign party headquarters invested a lot of money, and this should help him with the Fine Gael leadership. He topped the poll for his Pembroke-Rathmines ward on Dublin City Council when he was elected in 2009 with two-and-a-half quotas and he was the only TD certain of retaining his seat in this general election. From Sandymount and living in Donnybrook, he is a UCD graduate of philosophy and English and has a masters degree in international relations. He previously worked in Vienna as a speechwriter at the nuclear test-ban treaty commission. – MARIE O'HALLORAN
