Cabinet to discuss IBRC inquiry next week, Taoiseach tells Dáil

The Cabinet will discuss how to proceed with the commission of inquiry into transactions at the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation (IBRC) at its meeting next Tuesday, Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told the Dáil.

Mr Justice Brian Cregan, who is leading the investigation, has said he does not have adequate powers to complete the task given to him by the Government and has also asked for more resources.

Mr Kenny told the Dáil on Wednesday Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams was the only Opposition TD to reply so far to his letter seeking advice on how to proceed with the inquiry.

"I have got your response; I have not got Fianna Fáil's … whether they have a view or not, I don't know,'' he said, replying to Mr Adams. "I haven't got one from Deputy Catherine Murphy. ''

Mr Kenny said the Government would respond to Mr Justice Cregan, taking into account Mr Adams's views and those of others. He said he hoped a structure could be put in place as quickly as possible.

“If it is necessary to have the support of the House for extra time, I am sure that is a matter that can be considered,’’ he added.
