Consultancy firm owned by Brian Cowen reports €17,000 profits

Former taoiseach set up company in 2013 to provide business and consultancy services

A consultancy company owned by former Taoiseach Brian Cowen has reported profits of more than €17,000 during its first year of trading.

Cowen Consulting Ltd, based at Ballard, Tullamore, Co Offaly, was set up by the former Fianna Fáil leader in September 2013 to provide business and consultancy services, according to company documents.

The 55-year-old is listed as a director and 99 per cent shareholder in the company. His wife, Mary Cowen, is also a director.

Accounts just filed to the Companies Registration Office reveal that Cowen Consulting Ltd made a profit of €17,498 in the 12-month period to October 2014.

Directorships

The firm had a cash balance of €12,000 at the end of that period.

He was appointed a non-executive director of Topaz Energy Group Ltd last year and, separately, a director of Beacon Hospital Sandyford Ltd last February.

He was also appointed a director of Simon Community (Midlands) Ltd in January, 2014.

In the Dáil last week, it emerged that Mr Cowen receives a public service pension of €80,810.
