Polish man found dead in unoccupied house

A Polish man found dead in an unoccupied house in Tralee town centre is the second homeless person to die in Kerry in recent weeks.

Gardaí in Tralee are trying to trace the relatives of Slawomir Marerewicz (59), who had been here for five years.

He was found slumped on the floor of the house at Ballymullen before lunch time on Tuesday by workmen who entered to do some work.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified by a social welfare card, a passport and a driving licence.

Polish police agencies have been asked to assist in seeking his relatives.

In October, a Limerick woman who had been in emergency accommodation in the town was found dead in Godfrey Place. Sarah O’Keeffe (22) had spoken movingly a year before of how she had battled addiction and homelessness and about the health problems she had developed from sleeping rough.
