At least 115 people were killed in bombings in two cities in Pakistan today, officials said, with most casualties caused by sectarian attacks in the city of Quetta.

Two co-ordinated explosions killed about 80 people and injured more than 100 in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, this evening, deputy inspector of Police Hamid Shakil said.

The first of two co-ordinated attacks in Quetta, in a snooker hall, appeared to be a suicide bombing, local residents said. About 10 minutes later there was a second explosion. Five policemen and a cameraman were among the dead from the second blast.

The attack happened in a predominately Shia neighbourhood, and banned sectarian group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi have claimed responsibility. The extremist Sunni group targets Shias, who make up about 20 per cent of Pakistani's population.
