A Co Cork-based online travel company based has ceased trading and a liquidator is to be appointed.

A statement on myguideireland.com says that "myguide Travel Limited has suspended the trading acitivities of its website after the loss of key merchant account facilities and the impact this has had on its cash flow".

The company said it had tried but failed to secure access to bridging finance.

Customers are advised that bookings should "still be held by the supplier, however it will need to be paid directly to the supplier. You are also advised to contact your credit company in relation to payments made to myguidetravel," the statement said.

The company has offices in Skibbereen, West Cork, and in Boston, and is understood to employ 14 people.
