A man was killed and another injured in gangland-style shooting in north Dublin today.

A man was killed and another injured in gangland-style shooting in north Dublin today.

The two men in their 30s suffered gunshot wounds in an attack on Grange Lodge Avenue, Clongriffin, Dublin 13, shortly after 3.30pm.

One man was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was named locally as Alan Ryan (31).

The second man was also taken to the hospital where he is being treated for his injuries to his leg. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident was the first gangland killing in the State since March.

A burnt-out car was found shortly after the shooting on Hole in the Wall Rd. Both scenes are sealed off pending a forensic examination.

Ryan had several previous convictions and had links with the Real IRA.

He allegedly extorted cash from drug dealers and businessmen across the city, and demanded protection money from firms. He was due to go on trial, with three other men, accused of threatening a city centre publican.
