Man killed in Dublin incident
A man has died after a collision involving a Dublin Bus in the city centre in the middle of rush hour traffic this evening.
Gardaí are investigating the incident which happened before 6pm at the junction of Dawson Street and Nassau Street.
Reports suggest there had been an altercation on Dawson Street in the moments before the collision and that the deceased had fallen from the footpath. Two other men are alleged to have fled the scene.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and a Garda forensic examination is being carried out. The 145 bus was turning left onto Nassau Street from Dawson Street shortly before 6pm when the collision occurred.
A Dublin Bus inspector was at the scene to help gardaí with the investigation.
Dublin Bus, which diverted services away from the area, said more than a dozen routes would be delayed.
“Dublin Bus wishes to advise customers that, due to an accident on Dawson Street, it is closed to traffic and all buses are being diverted,” the company said.
“There was a fatal accident at the junction with Nassau Street at about 5.40pm this evening involving a pedestrian.”
Several commuters and shoppers were in the area when the incident happened.
Nassau Street and Dawson Street and Cuffe Street going on to St Stephen’s Green were closed off to traffic following the incident.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses with any information to come forward.
