Proposed cuts in brief
SOCIAL AND FAMILY AFFAIRS
- All social welfare payments should be cut by 5%, to achieve savings of €850 million
- Child benefit be reduced and standardised and €2.5 billion programme cut by 20%
- An end to receiving two welfare payments
HEALTH
- Over 6,000 health jobs should be cut
- Department of Health should be reduced by 10% a year over the next three years
- Income guidelines for the Medical Card should be revised
EDUCATION
- Some 7,000 job to be cut from the sector
- Special needs assistants and English language support cut
- Cuts to capitation grants for primary and post primary schools
AGRICULTURE
- REPS environmental scheme to be closed
- Teagasc staff numbers rationalised Teagasc and Dept offices - €37m
ENTERPRISE, TRADE AND EMPLOYMENT
- Merge the regional offices of Enterprise Ireland, IDA and FÁS - €87m
COMMUNITY RURAL AND GAELTACHT AFFAIRS
- Cuts Department programmes/Gaeltacht Schemes
ENVIRONMENT
- 12 county and town councils to abolished or merged with others to save €100m
TRANSPORT
- Rationalisation of CIE companies to achieve €55 million in savings
- Cuts to road maintenance programme to save €20 million
ARTS, SPORTS AND TOURISM
- Tourism and marketing funding to be reduced by €27 million
- Sports Council grants reduced to save €17.7 million
JUSTICE
- Cuts to pay and allowances for justice sector staff, including gardaí to save €65m
COMMUNICATIONS, ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES
- Cuts to energy efficiency schemes run by Sustainable Energy Ireland to save €40m
DEFENCE
- Defence Forces personnel should be cut by more than 500
FINANCE
- Office of Public Works staff should be cut by 660
