Knock Airport had busiest year

The international airport founded by a parish priest in Co Mayo is continuing to buck the recession. Ireland West Airport Knock announced yesterday it has just had its busiest year.

Passenger numbers at the rural airport jumped 5 per cent during 2012, with 685,000 using the airport.

The opening up by Ryanair of new routes to Spain, Germany, France and Italy helped contribute to the increase, with the airport now serving 25 international destinations.
