GAZA:Israel has killed a Hamas gunman it says was preparing to fire a rocket from the Gaza Strip.

A separate Palestinian salvo also struck a southern Israeli city yesterday, but caused no damage.

The incidents followed a three-day lull since a surge in violence last week in which Israel killed at least four Gaza militants as dozens of rockets were fired at Israeli towns, damaging some homes and wounding several agricultural workers.

An Israeli air strike before dawn struck two gunmen from the Palestinian enclave’s governing Hamas movement on a motorcycle near the town of Khan Younis, said local officials . One man was killed and the other wounded.

An Israeli spokesman said a squad about to fire a rocket had been targeted.
