Two arrested after man found with head injuries in Cork

Gardaí believe man was victim of assault in St Luke’s area last night

Gardaí in Cork city have arrested two males in their late teens in connection with an an assault which left a man in his hospital with serious head injuries.

Gardaí believe the assault happened on Ballyhooley Road near St Luke's on the city's northside sometime before 1.10am when the man was found lying on the ground.

The emergency services were called and the man was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where it’s understood he remains in a serious condition.

Gardaí cordoned off the scene and garda technical experts have begun a forensic examination of the area in a search for clues .

Officers have also begun investigating if there is CCTV footage in the area that could assist them, and are carrying out door to door inquiries to see if anyone saw or heard any disturbance.

Two males in their late teens were arrested around 9am this morning, and are being held at Mayfield Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Officers have yet to establish the identity of the victim and they have appealed to the public for assistance. Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda station on 021-4558510.
