A teenage boy has died while swimming in a reservoir in Dublin earlier today.

The body of the 16-year-old was recovered from the lower lake at the reservoir in Bohernabreena after a search was launched at around 4pm.

Early indications are that the deceased was one of a number of people swimming in the fine weather and subsequently who got into difficulty.

His death comes on the same day as Irish Water Safety (IWS) issued a seasonal appeal for those entering waterways to exercise vigilance.

With half a million primary school pupils on their Easter Holidays, the IWS said “constant responsible parental supervision guarantees child safety yet tragic drownings occur every year when children manage to escape the watchful eye of guardians.”
