Parking charges at train stations to increase from Monday
Daily rate paid by rail users to rise by €1
Commuters face an increase in parking charges at train stations from next Monday.
The daily rate will increase by € 1, from € 3 to € 4, while those paying using the ParkbyText service will see an increase from €2 to €3. Weekly rates (€8 per week for those using ParkbyText, and €10 using the machine) and monthly charges of €30 will not increase.
Irish Rail spokesman Barry Kenny said the increase was due to a significant reduction in funding by the Government.
However, Conor Faughnan of AA Ireland said, while he had sympathy for the financial challenges facing the train company, customers faced similar financial challenges.
“It doesn’t make good sense. It is a significant disincentive and bad sense long term for transport planning,” he said.
