Gardaí in Cork have arrested a man in his early 50s for questioning following a €50,000 drugs seizure in an isolated part of west Cork earlier today.

Members of the Cork city divisional drugs squad arrested the man near a wooded area at Templemartin between Bandon and Macroom at about 9.30am.

They recovered 2.5kg of cannabis grass in the woodland which they believe was intended for distribution in the local market in Cork city and county.

Detectives arrested the suspect - who is from the Togher area of Cork city - and he is being detained at bandon Garda station for questioning.

The man is being held under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act which allows gardaí detain suspects for up to seven days before they have to be released or charged.
