A man has died after his car collided with a bridge in Co Kilkenny last night.

The crash happened on the N9 at Knockwilliam, Ballyhale shortly after 9pm.

The man (42) was the only occupant of the car and he was pronounced dead at scene.

His body has been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for a postmortem.

The road is closed for an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Diversions are in place.
