Man armed with shotgun robs Co Cork post office

Lone raider escapes with small sum of cash after holding up staff at Little Island post office

A man armed with a shotgun held up staff at a post office in Co Cork early on Monday.

It is understood the man stole a small amount of cash from the post office at Little Island before he escaped in a green Ford Focus.

No one was injured in the raid but it is understood staff at the post office were badly shaken by the ordeal during which the raider brandished the sawn off shotgun.

The Ford Focus was found abandoned but not burnt out at Brooklodge in Glanmire a short time after the raid.

Garda technical experts are due to carry out a forensic examination of the vehicle for DNA and fingerprint evidence.

Gardaí have begun examining CCTV footage from the area and have appealed to anyone with any information to contact Mayfield Garda station on (021) 4558510.

It's the second such armed raid in the area in the past three weeks and follows a similar type raid at the Applegreen Service Station at Brooklodge in Glanmire on April 18th.
