Man (87) dies in early morning house fire in Donegal

An 87-year-old man was killed when a blaze broke out at his home in West Donegal early on Friday morning.

The man has ben named locally as Connie Boyle.

The widowed father of four was found after a blaze broke out at his bungalow home at Pole Road, Meenmore, Dungloe at 2.30am.

Mr Boyle was taken from the house by fire fighters. Efforts to resucitate him were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced dead.

The scene was preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí said said is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Boyle worked for many years at the local fisherman’s cooperative.

Local politicians including former MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher, a close personal friend, paid tribute to Mr Boyle.
