Luas row: Talks with non-driver grades ‘very positive’ - Transdev

Luas operator Transdev has said talks with non-driver grades of staff at the company on Tuesday were "very positive".

A spokeswoman for the company said the process with traffic supervisors, revenue protection officers and revenue protection supervisors would continue, with further meetings planned over the next 24-48 hours.

The trade union Siptu, representing Luas staff, said on Monday the meetings between the company and non-driver grades was aimed at clarifying some issues surrounding a revised pay offer put forward last week by management.

A planned meeting between Luas drivers and management scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed.

Scheduling problems

Company sources said this was due to scheduling problems and the meeting would be rearranged.

On Monday, Luas drivers decided to unconditionally cancel a 48-hour stoppage scheduled for this weekend “in order to create a window for talks with management aimed at finding a resolution to this dispute”.

Siptu has scheduled two general meetings of all grades of Luas workers to take place in Liberty Hall on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Luas staff have already staged eight strikes over recent months as part of a campaign for improved pay and conditions.

A further six stoppages are planned for the weeks ahead.
