Killybegs hit by flash flooding following heavy rain

Killybegs in Co Donegal has been hit by flooding after heavy overnight rain and high tides.

A number of premises including local Independent TD Thomas Pringle's office were affected when the Glen River burst its banks flooding Bridge Street.

Shore Road and part of Roshine Road in Killybegs have also been flooded and sandbags have been distributed.

Fintra National School in the town has also been hit with flood water and its gym has been inundated.

Donegal Fire Brigade have been pumping out flood water from affected premises.

Local Independent councillor Niamh Kennedy told Donegal Now the water was at knee height on the Shore Road.

“Water was coming up from under the road and was coming along over the road at the same time. There was one home in particular that was badly affected down there,” she said.

“Even on higher ground it was bad because the water river burst its banks. Thankfully, the tide has gone out now. The river is still gushing but at least it has somewhere to go.”
