Hundreds gather for removal of Cathriona White

Beauty therapist’s ex-boyfriend, actor Jim Carrey, expected to attend funeral

Hundreds of people turned out for the removal in Co Tipperary of beauty therapist Cathriona White, who died suddenly in Los Angeles.

The 30-year-old from Cappawhite, who was the ex-girlfriend of film star Jim Carrey, was found dead at her US home in the Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles on September 28th.

Her stepmother Bríd and sister Lisa flew to California last week to bring her remains back to Ireland.

Ms White’s remains reposed at White’s Funeral Home in Cappawhite, before being removed to the nearby Our Lady of Fatima Church.

A large number of people paid their respects and offered support to Ms White’s mother Brigid, stepmother Bríd, sisters Lisa, Larina and Sarah, brothers James and Tadhg, and other relatives and friends. Prayers were led by parish priest Fr Tadhg Furlong.

Ms White’s requiem mass is to take place on Saturday at 11.30am, with burial afterwards in Cappawhite Cemetery. She will be buried beside her father Pat, who died of brain cancer in 2012.

Ms White was a past pupil of the Convent of Mercy in Doon, across the county border from Cappawhite in Co Limerick, and trained in beauty and complementary therapies at the Limerick College of Further Education.

She eventually moved to Los Angeles which became her home and worked as a stylist, make-up artist and special effects make-up artist on a number of film productions.

She met Mr Carrey through her work in the industry and they were photographed several times together around Los Angeles, once with the Hollywood star wearing a Tipperary GAA jersey.

In a statement last week, the actor said he was “deeply saddened” by his former girlfriend’s death.

“She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled,” he said. “My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”

Mr Carrey is rumoured to have flown into Ireland on Friday morning and is expected to be at the funeral Mass in Cappawhite.

Ms White’s family also issued a statement last week, describing her as “a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family. We will miss her terribly.”

Ms White was reported to have married cameraman Mark Burton in Las Vegas in 2013.
