Gardaí foil heroin supply gang and arrest two men

Detectives believe drugs were being brought from Dublin for sale in Cork

Gardaí in Cork have arrested two men for questioning following the seizure of €40,000 worth of heroin when they stopped and searched a car in Glanmire on the outskirts of the city last night.

Members of the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad recovered the ¼ kilo of heroin when they stopped and searched a car on the main Cork-Dublin Road in Glanmire at around 10.15pm.

Detectives arrested one man in his 40s and another man in his 20s and both from the Knocknaheeny area of Cork’s northside for questioning about the drugs.

The two men were arrested under drug trafficking legislation which allows gardai detain suspects for up to seven days and both were brought to Mayfield Garda Station for questioning.

Gardaí believe the men were bringing the drugs from Dublin to Cork and that the drugs were destined for distribution in Cork city and its environs.
