Four motorcyclists among six deaths on roads over weekend
Four-year-old Kathleen Delaney from Doneraile, Co Cork died after incident on N20
Gardai and the PSNI are investigating the deaths of four motorcyclists on the roads at the weekend, with two other people also killed in collisions involving vehicles in the Republic. One of the fatalities in the vehicle collisions was a girl aged 4 years.
The child has been named as Kathleen Delaney from Doneraile, Co Cork. She was travelling with her parents and two-year-old sister when the fatal collision occurred on the N20 Cork to Mallow Road shortly after 4pm on Saturday.
The Ford Transit van in which the Delaneys were travelling went out of control and turned on its side at Knocnabehy near the turn for Grenagh.
Kathleen was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where she later died from her injuries. The three other members of her family were taken to the same hospital for treatment. However, neither the dead girl’s parents nor her sister was seriously injured. Diversions were put in place to facilitate an examination of the scene by Garda investigators.
Meanwhile, yesterday at 6.20pm a man in his 20s was killed when his motorbike was in collision with a car on the Abbeydorney to Tralee road, around two miles from Tralee in Co Kerry.

He was taken by helicopter from the scene shortly after the crash at 1.20pm and flown to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. However, he was pronounced dead just after 5.30pm. From Hillsborough, Co Down, the dead man’s bike had apparently gone out of control and hit a ditch.
Yesterday morning, a man in his 20s was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Co Louth. The man, who was the sole occupant of a car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
As well as the four deaths on the roads in the Republic at the weekend two motorcyclists lost their lives in collisions in the North.
