Foul play ruled out in man’s death in Rathcormac

Gardaí are to prepare a file for an inquest in the Coroner's Court after a postmortem examination ruled out foul play in the death of man whose body was found in Rathcormac in Co Cork.

Investigators said they are treating the death of the Polish man in his 40s as a tragic accident following the completion of the postmortem on Tuesday afternoon.

The man’s body was found at the entrance to the basement of a duplex apartment in the Manor Mills estate at about 11am on Monday morning.

It is understood that he had suffered head and other injuries.

However, the postmortem by Acting Deputy State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan ruled out any question of foul play.

Gardaí now believe the man - who had been out socialising on Saturday night into Sunday morning - may have died after falling more than 20ft from an upstairs window in the duplex.

The deceased was found by the two men with whom he was sharing the rented duplex.

Toxicology tests

Gardaí are also awaiting the results of toxicology tests carried out by Dr Mulligan.

It is understood the test results will be included in the file, which will be sent to Coroner for north Cork Dr Michael Kennedy.

Gardaí said they will not be releasing the man's name until all his next-of-kin in Poland have been informed of his death.
