1. Points rise

Leaving Certificate students get their results tomorrow. But this year the number of college applicants has reached the highest level on record, meaning points increases are likely for a range of third-level courses.

2. Gentleman’s agreement

A consultant psychiatrist prescribed benzodiazepines between 1988 and 2013 for a patient who had originally been diagnosed as having anxiety and an obsessive personality. When the patient threatened to report the consultant to the Medical Council, the consultant paid him €50,000.
