Man due in court today over seizure of heroin in Rosslare

Gardai and customs officials have seized drugs with an estimated street value of €5million in three separate operations over the weekend.

In Co Wexford a man (63) is due to appear before a special sitting of Gorey District Court this morning charged in connection with the seizure over 10.2kgs of heroin with an estimated street value of €1.5 million at Rosslare Europort on Friday.

The drugs were found when a 4x4 vehicle was searched on arrival at the port.

Customs officers have also seized €1.2 million worth of herbal cannabis at the port.

Officers from Revenue’s Customs Service found 60kg of the drug hidden in a Northern-Irish registered trailer that arrived on a ferry from Cherbourg and concealed in a consignment of tiles.

In Co Meath yesterday Revenue officials and gardai seized 120kgs of herbal cannabis with a street value of €2.4million during a search of a house in Oldcastle.

Two men, aged 50 and 31, were arrested and are being questioned at Kells Garda station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.
